My interest in identity and heritage has so far articulated itself in the form of interrogating the past for weaknesses so as to help me understand weaknesses in the present.

This is an important part of a process of acceptance.

But there are positives to be taken from these things too.

For the next stage of my work I look to focus on these positives; building on acceptance to use elements from my heritage to express how that heritage has given me a unique perspective and identity that allows me to flourish in the present.

This proposed exhibition is the first step in this direction. It is based on craft and a love of making, repurposing traditional techniques from my Portuguese heritage.
